The Orion Chamber Music Society exists to glorify God with the gift of music, giving opportunity to talented young people and adults to perform classical and sacred works of art.
The goal of the Orion Chamber Music Society String Camp is to provide an opportunity for young people to be challenged to improve their musical skills for God’s glory. It is the desire of OCMS that participants in String Camp would be equipped for ministry both in the [local] church and community. Students will improve their skills in tone, technique, and interpretation through participation in orchestras and small ensembles under the direction of experienced instructors. Participants will also develop listening skills and musical understanding through musicianship and aural skills classes.
OCMS String Camp was founded in 2005 by G. Leonard Holliday who set the vision for the annual week-long summer camp that has reached over 100 students.
I look forward to the OCMS String Camp every year. They offer many good experiences, from music theory and history classes, to rehearsing and performing in orchestras and quartets. I really enjoy this camp and would highly recommend it to any string player!
I can't express how thankful we are for OCMS String camp and the opportunity for our daughter to learn and grow, not only in her playing, but also in her walk with God through string camp each summer. OCMS has consistently been our choice for our daughter because it is the only camp that not only stretches and teaches her to improve her playing abilities, but also encourages her spiritual walk with God. OCMS’S program of mentoring young musicians and the encouraging atmosphere it fosters is a testament to the leadership's desire to encourage the next generation to bring glory to God in and through music. - Julia F, Parent
